What to Wear for Your Brand Photos (And What to Avoid)

If you’re staring at your closet wondering what on earth to wear for your brand session — you’re not alone. Your brand photos should feel like you — polished, confident, and approachable — but not like you’re playing dress-up. So what should you actually wear?

Let’s break it down so you walk into your shoot feeling like the best version of yourself, not someone else entirely.

First, What You Wear Tells Your Story

Brand photography isn’t about “looking nice” — it’s about communicating your vibe, your values, and your voice. Whether you’re a wellness coach, designer, attorney, or small business owner, your audience should feel like they know you just by seeing your photos. And what you wear is a huge part of that.

What Works on Camera (and What Doesn’t)

• Stick to 2–3 brand-friendly colors. Pull from your website, logo, or space — this keeps your visuals cohesive.
• Mix textures and layers. A denim jacket, a linen top, a structured blazer — these add dimension and help the photo feel more dynamic.
• Choose fitted (not tight) silhouettes. Oversized clothing can overwhelm the frame. Aim for pieces that highlight you.
• Wear what you feel powerful in. If you feel like a boss in that leather jacket, bring it. If you feel at home in soft neutrals, lean in.

❌ AVOID:

• Busy patterns. Tiny stripes, polka dots, and bold graphics can distract or distort on camera.
• Neon colors. They cast unflattering light on your face and clash with most settings.
• Anything that doesn’t fit well. Constantly adjusting your outfit mid-shoot isn’t the energy we want.
• Logos (unless it’s your brand). Nike, Gucci, etc. pull attention away from you.
