As an Austin brand photographer with over 13 years of experience, I help businesses create strategic imagery that reflects their purpose and drives results. From large businesses to creative entrepreneurs, I craft brand photography that tells your story and supports your marketing goals.
Over the past year I’ve photographed two different Mahjong businesses in Austin, and every single time I walk into one of these events the same thought hits me:
Mahjong is having a serious moment here.
What used to feel like a quiet tabletop game has turned into one of the most social gatherings in the city. Beautiful tables, colorful tiles, cocktails, conversation, and a room full of women laughing and learning something new together.
Recently I photographed sessions for Mahj House Austin and Mahj Social Club, two brands helping bring Mahjong back into the spotlight in Austin.
Each session had its own personality, but both reminded me why photographing experience-based businesses is so fun to show why thoughtful brand photography matters when a business is built around experience.

As an Austin brand photographer, sessions like these are some of my favorites to photograph.
Businesses built around experiences have a rhythm to them. The energy shifts throughout the night. Conversations start slowly, people get comfortable, and by the end of the evening the room feels completely different than when it began.
My job in those environments is mostly observation. Watching for the small moments happening around the table. Hands reaching for tiles, someone laughing across the table, the concentration when someone realizes they’re close to Mahjong.
Those details end up being the images brands return to again and again because they capture the real personality of the event.

The rise of Mahjong in Austin isn’t just about the game.
It’s about gathering.
The women building these brands have turned Mahjong into something social, stylish, and welcoming. Think beautifully styled tables, colorful tiles, cocktails, and conversation.
From a photography standpoint, this kind of brand is perfect for lifestyle-driven imagery. The goal isn’t just documenting the product. It’s capturing the feeling of being there.
For both of these sessions we focused on:
• table styling and tiles
• hands playing the game
• conversation and laughter
• wide room shots showing the atmosphere
• detail photos of accessories and materials
These types of images allow businesses to tell a complete visual story across websites, newsletters, and social media.

Mahjong has quietly become one of the most popular social gatherings in Austin. Across the city, Mahjong nights, lessons, and social clubs are popping up as people look for ways to connect offline and try something new.
Brands like Mahj House Austin and Mahj Social Club are helping lead that movement, hosting gatherings where people can learn the game, meet friends, and spend an evening around the table.
If you’ve been curious about Mahjong but haven’t played before, Austin actually has a growing number of welcoming communities where beginners can learn.

My session with Mahj House Austin focused on capturing the energy of Mahjong lessons and gameplay as they unfolded. They have a beautiful space where they host events, lessons and sell tiles, so we also made sure to document that part as well.
Along with the photography, we also captured b-roll footage throughout the evening. Small moments like tiles being stacked, hands reaching across the table, and players reacting to winning hands translate beautifully into short-form video content.
For brands built around community gatherings, those natural moments matter more than anything.
When someone lands on their website or social media, they’re not just looking to see what Mahjong looks like.
They want to know what it feels like to be there.
The laughter, the focus around the table, the feeling of learning something new with friends.
That’s the story the images tell.

The session with Mahj Social Club leaned a little more into the visual identity of the brand and the experience they provide with their pop-up lessons. Kind of a “day out, night out” and “I deserve this” vibe.
Mahjong tables can be incredibly beautiful when they’re styled well. Colorful tiles, patterned mats, racks lined up perfectly, and little details that make the setup feel special.
For this shoot we created a mix of:
• styled table setups
• tile and rack close-ups
• players interacting around the table
• wider lifestyle moments showing the room
That mix gives the brand imagery they can use everywhere from their website to event promotion to social media.
And it still keeps the focus on the experience itself.

Brands like Mahj House Austin and Mahj Social Club aren’t just selling Mahjong lessons.
They’re creating an environment.
A night out.
A social club.
A reason to gather.
For businesses like this, photography becomes the way people understand the experience before they ever attend.
Images help potential guests picture themselves sitting at the table, meeting new people, learning the game, and becoming part of the community.
In a city like Austin, where community-driven brands thrive, that kind of visual storytelling makes a huge difference.

If you’ve lived in Austin for a while, this probably doesn’t surprise you.
This city loves gathering.
From workout communities to book clubs to dinner series, people here are always finding new ways to spend time together.
Mahjong has just become one of the newest (and honestly most fun) additions to that world.
And as a photographer, I love getting to document the moments where those communities come to life.

Sessions like these are a great example of the kinds of brands I love working with in Austin. Businesses built around community, gatherings, and shared experiences have a natural energy that translates beautifully on camera.
Whether it’s documenting an event as it unfolds or creating intentional lifestyle imagery for marketing, the goal is always the same: capture the moments that make someone want to be there.
When potential customers land on a website or social feed, strong imagery helps them quickly understand the experience a brand is offering and imagine themselves being part of it.
If you run a business built around experiences, events, or community, the right imagery helps people understand what makes your brand special.
From social gatherings to styled brand sessions, the goal is always the same: capture the moments that make people want to be part of it.
